About

I received a degree in music from London University in 1975 followed by a PGCE in 1976. In 1980 I gained an LTCL from Trinity College in Clarinet Teaching. I was appointed Director of Music at Holme Grange School, Wokingham in 1976 and later became Director of Music at Chinthurst School, Tadworth in 1987. In 1991 I left full time teaching in schools to give individual lessons in piano, saxophone and clarinet whilst still continuing as a peripatetic teacher in a number of local schools including Upton Court Grammar School and Woodcote House School.

Lessons

I teach instruments and theory from absolute beginner level to Grade 8 and sometimes beyond.

Most pupils continue for some time with a view to achieve as high a standard as possible but a one off lesson, or a few lessons to learn a specific piece or prepare for a concert is available.

I teach all levels, including adults, from 6 years onwards.

I am DBS checked.

Pupils can be prepared for exams or just learn for pleasure and personal fulfilment.

Lessons take place in my own home in Windlesham, Surrey with pupils travelling from surrounding areas including Ascot, Sunningdale, Virginia Water, Camberley, Woking and Guildford.

The lesson length varies according to the needs, level and age of the pupil. I teach mainly half hour or one hour lessons with an option for a forty five minute lesson, although this can be harder to schedule. A weekly lesson is the norm, although some adults are happiest with an hour a fortnight.

Instruments

I have a relaxed and friendly manner and I try to put all pupils, particularly beginners, at their ease.
